many ideas are simple, some are brilliant, few are both

goodbye blogger…hello wordpress

I’ve finally made the leap to WordPress, and I am delighted. The instructions for a five minute installation actually take about five minutes. The WordPress install was, dare I say, delightful, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Plus, transferring posts and comments from Blogger was easier than the install.

If only the domain transfer were so easy.

And why, you ask, did I decide to leave the comfort of my free Blogger account? Main reason: the preview feature. In Blogger, the preview was “fake.” It didn’t use the theme from the site. So, I couldn’t tell what the final post would look like inside my fixed width theme. Lame. Weak. I had other reasons too, but I expect they would be as boring for you to read as for me to write.

So, make sure to toss the new betterthansimple.com feed into your reader of choice (I recommend Google Reader). Then, let me know if there are any topics that you would like me to cover.

Most of all, thanks for reading, and keep the comments coming.

Burning questions I’d like to see covered:

    1. Adobe Flex: Why did you choose to use it over a purely web-based or purely native framework?
    2. Javascript type annotations: “Static typing, here I come!”, or “Future headache, here I come!”
    3. MacBook Air: When will upgrade to it? You total Macin-Whore.
    4. WordPress: Why no preview for my comment? Will my clever HTML be stripped? We’ll all know once this comment is submitted…
    5. <blink> tag: Where did it all go wrong?
6: JFK Assassination: Best move LBJ ever made?

    Tom,

Sorry for the delay in your comment getting posted. I’m still getting wordpress configured, and it was holding up all new comments in moderation.

    Tom,

I just added a live preview to the comments — not sure if it will work in all browsers, but Firefox seems to do fine.

BTW, what did you mean by “purely native framework?”

And yes, I’m getting a MacBook Air ASAP.

I meant something like MFC/.NET/Win32 for Windows or Cocoa for Mac OS X.

The live preview rocks! Check out how I can scam people via your website and an <iframe>!!!!!

Maybe you shouldn’t let all markup through?

Oops, live preview shows everything, but clearly something sanitizes the actual comment.
